I am down in Texas, and I forgot to do an official weigh-in before I left yesterday morning, so I won’t be weighing in this week. I won’t be back with my scale until next Sunday, so Monday or Tuesday will be my next official weigh-in, I suppose.

I’m secure enough in my manliness to admit that I got my butt kicked by a girl this morning.
My membership at the gym comes with a free consultation and workout with a personal trainer. I did my consultation last Monday, but we didn’t have time to do the workout at that time. So today, I did my workout. Let me tell you, I have a whole new respect for the people on The Biggest Loser (well, respect for their physical efforts; the Blue Team really has me wondering about their mental capacity). I’ve always known that getting healthy will be hard work, and I’ve worked hard on my own, but nothing like this. It was really an eye-opener for me to see what I’m going to have to do to get things done.
I’m heading to Texas for a week on Friday, but starting on Monday, March 23, I will be meeting with the trainer twice a week. I’m really looking forward to learning the science behind exercise and nutrition and everything else that needs to work together for me to meet my goals. I have always been better at doing things when I understand WHY I am doing them, so I think the more I learn about how the body works and reacts to different things, the easier it will be for me to make the right choices.
So today was a big (and painful and expensive) step on my road to being Half the Man. Woohoo!

Subtitle for this week’s post:
TOP 4 REASONS I’M GLAD I ONLY GAINED 0.8 POUNDS THIS WEEK
- I only really went to the gym twice. Monday was my consultation with the trainer, so it was mostly talking and only a couple minutes of exercising. I wasn’t feeling well on Tuesday or Friday, so Wednesday and Thursday were my only gym days.
- Our treadmill is broken, so we didn’t do any exercising together here at home. We went for a couple walks, but nothing very intense.
- Logan’s birthday was on Monday, and we bought a Costco cake. Long story about my own personal weaknesses short, I ate multiple pieces of cake throughout the week.
- One of the things I discussed with the trainer was that your body needs regular fuel to burn fat throughout the day, so she recommended that I eat small amounts every two or three hours. I did a lot better at the “eating every two or three hours” than I did at “eating small amounts.”
So all things considered, I was actually relieved to step on the scale and see 346.8. It’s obviously not progress, but it could have been worse.
I am going to Texas for a week or so on the 13th, but as soon as I get back, I will begin working regularly with the trainer. I really enjoyed talking with her and learning a little bit more about the science of weight loss, and I am confident that a combination of better tracking of what I eat and a more scientific approach to exercise will get me back to losing four or five pounds a week, which is what I need to be doing at this point.
Here’s this week’s Blubbermetrics:
- Weight: 346.8 pounds
- Weight Loss Since Last Weigh-In: -0.8 pounds
- Total Weight Loss To Date: 55.0 pounds
- Left to Lose Overall: 106.8 pounds
- Percentage of Goal Lost: 33.99%
- Left to Lose for Next Mini-Goal (under 340): 6.9 pounds
- Average Weekly Loss I Need to Meet My Overall Goal Before My Daughter’s Fifth Birthday: 3.14 pounds
- Average Weekly Loss So Far: 1.67 pounds
